lyrics

some guys linger on in empty town without a name
and in the bottom dresser drawers of broken hearted dames
a legend never has a chance to send a last regard
left burning in the dead man s lap
the butt of a cigar

private eyes most never lie but eyes can tell you more
i loved the way her silhouette was painted on the door
i slicked my hair and licked my teeth and took a little sip
or two or more i took one more then pulled it from lips

her hair was shiny red and curly somethin mannequin
if i can pick em i can pick em her drink of choice was gin
then like some bad b movie i think you know the rest
she implored my help as one fake tear goes splat up on my desk

her eyes were cold familiar too but i couldn t put a name
her aroma too resembled somethin out of a dream
i took a puff cuz dead eyes from the barrel of a gun
they all start to look the same but you remember every one

this dame had a bone to pick apparently with me
she said i killed her
what s that supposed to mean?
they say that dead men never walk, do dead dames wear high heels?
she floated to the ceiling
i said fuck this ghost s for real

a $50 case plus the cost of bullets used
to drop some bitch a witch in fact, Drezelda Eldermooj
i think she knew my head just coudn t spin so far that way
i guess for private eyes that s the price you got to pay

she cackled once and spit my name and flew right out the door
i coughed just once enough to spit some blood upon the floor
my eyes rolled back into my head and suck into my brain
on the door my name had disappeared
only private eye remains
