(i will stand up to you) Fall

from summer after god by Jeff Gladstone

/

about

This song was improvised in late 2005. I think most of us understand that feeling of impending doom that can creep in when when Fall comes around. I created this song to remind me that everything passes, and thought that if i sing it in the Fall, it would give me the extra strength i would need to get through another one.

lyrics

i will stand up to you Fall
you won t have me this year
and the emotional drop
that you somehow bring to me
every time those leaves fall down

you won t have me this time Fall
i m done with you
stick to the squirrels and your icicles
stick to the lakes and all those freezin mountain tops

you re an omniscient threat Fall
you are a bully and you re ozone tall
i m gonna kick you in your icy balls
cuz this september i m armed and dangerous

i will stand up to you Fall
you and all your chicken shit ways
you won t bring me down like the sun
like the horizon in the east
and across the vista of my consciousness
or the vista of my love
my love

i can feel you creepin into my heart
with your glistening lawns
and your silent streets
and your quiet hours
inside dogs and cats
and papers are wet on the ground
papers are wet on the ground
you won t have me this time
you won t bring me down
i m ready for you
my thirty first Fall
my thirty first Fall
my thirty first Fall
