Birds'd Crash

from summer after god by Jeff Gladstone

/

about

words and music by Roky Erickson

I was driving home one night and the University radio station played this song "Be and Bring Me Home" It was one of the few times (the other being when i first heard Eric Clapton's unplugged version of Layla for the first time) when I had to pull over the car just to hear the rest of the song.

The host went on to explain how Roky Erickson had formed one of the first psychedelic rock bands in Austen in 1965, The 13th Floor Elevators, who went on to influence Janis Joplin and Jim Morrison before the San Francisco scene in '67

He explained how due to years of drug experimentation and abuse, Roky had lost most of his faculties, spending his nights watching dozens of televisions set on white static "just to drown out the demons in his mind". During periods of relative lucidity over the past thirty years, they had compiled an album of demos and home recordings called "Never Say Goodbye"

lyrics

we're here
i'm here
your there
self
all clear

and its gonna last
and its gonna last
thinking they had to birds'd crash

i'm going fast
i'm going fast
stay with me
make plans
that you can

and its gonna last
and its gonna last
thinking they had to birds'd crash

wells it s like we found out
if your gonna think something
think something that's not dead
you wouldn't wanna take it wrong
think it out through your head

we've made it
with feeling
all we wanted to bring
you re here too

and its gonna last
and its gonna last
thinking they had to birds'd crash

can't fake it
can't break it
all our dreams to keep us through

and its gonna last
and its gonna last
thinking they had to birds'd crash

wells it like we found out
if your gonna think something
think something that's not dead
you wouldn't wanna take it wrong
think it out through your head

bad dreams
don't build that way
I feel so strong
about this will

and its gonna last
and its gonna last
thinking they had to birds'd crash

all I have to do
is keep filled
better and better
tingling thrill

and its gonna last
and its gonna last
thinking they had to birds'd crash

and its gonna last
and its gonna last
and its gonna last

birds'd crash
